Our world is driven by media, so media literacy is one of the most important skills a student can develop. At Aspire, our students have been working on “Zombies in Zootown” for the past 4 years, creating a high quality production that is now in its 4th installment and over 60 minutes long! Our year begins with a script writing class, where students learn to collaborate in a shared script writing process. Next, we convert our school building into a movie studio and spent 8 weeks filming the movie. In our third quarter, we learn editing skills. Our more advanced students edit the movie using Adobe Premiere, while the beginning students assist them and work on the blooper reel. Finally, we spend a quarter working on sound design and developing the soundtrack. During the entire process, a group of students works to market the movie, update our movie blog and reach out to local business for financial support.
